Ericsson has strengthened its service continuity offering with a suite of more than 200 artificial intelligence (AI) apps that will help Communication Service Providers (CSPs) increase the efficiency and resilience of their mobile networks.
In a world where connectivity has become a necessity, the automation enabled by these AI apps makes it easier for CSPs to deal with technology challenges while ensuring outstanding levels of network quality and stability.
The Service Continuity AI app suite is the latest addition to Ericsson’s Network Support Services portfolio. This suite was developed in collaboration with CSPs for predictive and proactive support. It uses AI and machine learning (ML) technologies to identify and fix problems before they impact network performance.
The AI app suite is divided into five functional categories: Insights; Perfomance; Security; Self-healing; and energy efficiency. Each AI app is an intelligent algorithm co-developed with CSPs to nip potential network problems in the bud. Combined with Ericsson’s telecoms expertise, the pre-trained algorithms also work within specific parameters to boost performance in line with the service provider’s goals. An AI app is operational 24/7 and ensures full monitoring of the network, otherwise a challenge without automation.
An example of these AI apps is *CPRI/SFP outage prevention, which helps detect risks of service outage due to CPRI connection failure that could impact user experience. An outage would normally require an emergency onsite visit, but with this AI app, the service provider is able to monitor all relevant link path loss trends and only recommends an onsite visit when certain thresholds are exceeded. This pre-emptive solution can reduce the cost per site visit by an estimated 30 percent, and the reduced downtime improves the user experience and overall network performance and stability.
Another example is that AI apps in the self-healing category have already benefited a customer with a recorded 200 zero-touch fixes per month on their network.
There are also AI apps that measure and analyze energy efficiency per location for detailed insights into the root cause of inefficiencies. Together with a European CSP, Ericsson has measured daily energy savings of up to 15 percent thanks to the automated energy saving function of an AI app, which enables intelligent activation of the radio’s deep sleep function.
